7 Hair Raising Foods

It’s always very general when someone tells you that a certain food is good for you. And while we too want you to take our nutrition advice – we want you to know the why behind each item on our shopping list. Below is our list of essential hair foods, from the perennial salmon to a pantheon of surprises that make hair nutrition seem very logical.

Salmon
It’s the fish that can’t seem to stop giving back. It’s packed with protein and Vitamin D – two essentials for great hair, and it contains natural oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated.  Also, because your body doesn’t make the Omega 3 fatty acids found in Salmon – it’s essential to have on your menu since approximately 3% of the hair shaft is made up of these fatty acids.

Blueberries
Great hair needs great circulation and that comes from great amounts of Vitamin C – something Blueberries are loaded with. Blueberries help in supporting the tiny blood vessels that feed the hair follicles.

Spinach
Eat it or juice it – just make sure it’s in your diet. One of the top causes of hair loss is iron deficiency, so intake of this leafy green veggie will combat that since its packed with iron.  That’s not all it offers though, it’s also chock-full o’ folate, beta-carotene and minerals that will pump your hair up.

Greek Yogurt
This health food favorite just got a lot tastier for those losing their hair. It’s packed with Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) an ingredient you’ll find in many hair products.

Oysters
Eat a lot of these and you’ll be horny and hairy. Not only do these little guys pack aphrodisiac power, they are also rich in zinc, which is essential for hair growth.

Carrots
Here’s what’s up doc. Loaded with beta carotene which the body turns into Vitamin A, carrots aid in producing scalp sustaining oils. Translation: It helps immensely with dandruff problems.

Chicken
For something so basic, chicken brings so much more to the table. It’s packed with protein, zinc, iron and B-vitamins – all of which are essential building blocks for healthy locks of hair.
